WARNING: This is a poop story, a funny poop story though.
The weather was especially crappy today, high of 53 and rainy, so I decided to take the kids to the mall. I had some gift cards and it was about time to fill in some gaps in Brooks’ summer wardrobe. On top of all of that goodness a friend texted me this morning to see if I wanted to meet for lunch. Wahoo, shopping and lunch with a friend.
We get to the mall around 11:15 for our scheduled lunch date at 11:30. Right as we are pulling into the mall Miss K starts howling. Not crying, but screeching at the top of her lungs and the apparent set she borrowed somewhere. I park and get the double stroller out ASAP and get her out of her seat. As soon as I pick her up I realize she is desperate need of a diaper change. Not a problem I had built this into our timing. I grab Brooks, all the while Miss K is still howling. She had eaten only an hour prior, but was apparently still hungry, fortunately she’s such a big girl she can hold her own bottle now!!
We get inside the mall and I go into Bloomingdales to A) use their restroom, B) peruse their shoe selection and C) check out if they have any infant Burberry (which they did). We go straight to the restroom and I bring Miss K up onto the changing table and start the changing process. This is when I discover she has exploded out of her diaper. Now as a cloth diaper user this is a random occurrence, but I was prepared, (sort of) with a change of clothes.
The explosion was so forceful she is covered down one leg past her knee. I didn’t discover the full extent though since it was front and back until after I had laid her on the mat and had begun to change her clothes. Since I didn’t realize how bad things were, poop was now everywhere. I decided to start from scratch. Once she was stripped down I took her over to the sink and bathed her. Brought her back and cleaned off the mat while holding a naked baby in one arm. Placed her back down and got her a new diaper and clothes.
I didn’t think much of it until I was relaying the story and realized just how comical it actually is. Several people walked in and out while we were there. Although the bathing was done behind closed doors (the handicap stall has a large private sink so I used that), the changing mat is in the main area of the restroom. I can only imagine what was going through people’s heads. Oh well, I had a clean and happy baby once again.
We had a kid, watched another kid for a few months, and now are having a baby for another couple. Isn't this typical for most American families?

What's In Your Bag?
A friend asked me how I manage to get out of the house with two kids in tow, especially for the day. Firstly, I don't carry a diaper bag, unless we are gone all day. If we are gone all day, I take my tote bag AND a diaper bag. So here we go, please disregard all the crap on the table not related to my bag.
When we go out with both babies, especially, we use Flip diapers. They take up so much less room than the usual pocket diapers we usually use. If I have both babies then I would have another cover though.
My clutch contains my cards, money, phone and keys. So much less glamorous than before Brooks. But now it's much more colorful! Also taking a picture of purse contents before leaving helps you make sure you haven't forgotten anything, which I had, critical thing for cloth diaper users a wet bag, and mine is missing.

Although the calendar says it's Monday
our day was not a "Monday". John has been working a lot recently so he took off this morning. This gave us the chance to take the babies to story time at the library. The kids seemed to really enjoy it and both crashed on the way home or as soon as we got back. We love living so close that we were able to walk, babes strapped to us.
After nap time we went on our ritual grocery shopping trip. I normally wear Miss K in the bjorn while Brooks sits in the cart. I didn't realize until we were inside that my back was killing me, so I decided to throw caution to the wind and put Miss K in the front, and it worked. I had to prop her up a little with a blanket, but that just added a little extra flair!

Now the day wouldn't be complete if there wasn't a little hiccup and this day was no exception. I didn't tighten the lid on Miss K's bottle enough and the milk spilled into my bag. Crises was averted though since it was sitting next to a cloth diaper that absorbed almost all of it. Reason number 112 to cloth diaper. Cleans up spills before you even know that they are there. Oh and this was like, 3 ounces of milk.
After Miss K went home and dinner was prepped we decided to take advantage of the gorgeous weather and take a walk. We didn't anticipate a 2 hour walk, but we did. As you can see Brooks wore his Orioles jersey today, for our walk he added the cap for a little extra effect, I think it works, don't you?

*grumble grumble Daylight Savings Time
This post would have been called something different if I hadn't given up swearing for Lent. By the way, for you nay sayers, I'm doing a pretty good job.
After forgetting to turn the clock in our bedroom back and being an hour late for choir practice yesterday, you would think that I would make sure all of the other clocks were also adjusted, ohhhh no, not me. I forgot the main floor clock the, floor where I spend most of my day. Because of this I was thrown off all day.
Before we headed over to have lunch with John I changed both kids. Since I was off I had missed the fact that it was nap time for both. I'm changing their diapers and they are both wailing. Took me 50 minutes to get out of the house once I started getting ready to do so.
They fall asleep in the car, I grab a coffee and play on my phone. We arrive at John's school about 5 minutes before class was over. I take the kiddos to the lobby, where they have a nice carpeted area and lots of sunlight, and take them both out of their seats. I get Brooks out and notice that his jeans are a little wet, oh no they are soaked. Oh well he's going to be crawling the whole time. Then Miss K, she's soaked too, well she's not going to be crawling, fortunately she was wearing a dress, so off went the leggings.
John gets out of class and we change both babies and I realize that I forgot to tuck the diaper fully into the cover, on BOTH. Poor kiddos, I was trying so hard to soothe them both that I hastily put on their diapers. The worst part I don't have a change of clothes for either, oh and I forgot Brooks' blanket. *face palm* We just don't have leaks or blowouts with the cloth diapers so I normally don't carry a change with me. Fortunately the cloth diaper covers are larger and their wet onsies don't touch the skin.
As we were leaving I grabbed a monogrammed burp cloth that had been given to Brooks and tucked it around his legs. Miss K had her fleece blanket so I wasn't worried about her warmth. They both fell asleep on the way home and took a nice nap. Once we were inside it was 3pm!! Where had the day gone? I ran upstairs to get pants for them both but couldn't find any for her so I grabbed a pair of Brooks', they are light blue with blue lambs and blue writing that says "thank heaven for little boys". Oh the humanity!!! At least they were now both dry and happy.

My Innargural Post
I've been meaning to do this for a while, or like 6 months, or however you want to define a while.
A little about us, John and I have been married for 4 years, we have a baby, Brooks, 7 months; 3 dogs, Geraldine, Nannette and Pappagano; and a cat, Pixel. We have a zoo, we had a zoo before we had a baby. John is a set designer and professor at a local college. I was laid off a week into my maternity leave and have been looking for a career change since. In the meantime I am watching our neighbor's daughter, Miss K, who will be 4 months next week.
We have cloth diapered Brooks since day 1, in the hospital. He's also breast fed, was exclusively until a few weeks ago when he dive bombed John's dinner plate and we decided to introduce solids. While in my charge Miss K is also cloth diapered, which is actually easier for me.
Days for me are really hectic, trying to get them both to sleep, as well feed them, change them and use the bathroom myself. Normally this leads to hilarity, sometimes multiple levels of hilarity. So, come and explore with me, I'll post pictures as often as possible.
Here's a preview, a little original fluffy butt picture circa July 14, 2010.
